A TIme Activity that has gained a great deal of popularity this year is TIME QUEST.

The concept of celebration and recognition is important on so many social, national, and professional levels.  Whether these celebrations are annual, or religiously based, or part of on going cultural norms, they form the fabric of cultural and national identity.  For example TIME HEADQUARTERs home , Canada annually celebrates Thanksgiving every October while our neighbours to the south celebrate Thanksgiving in November. Every fall North Americans recognize the annual harvest and give thanks for family and friends. There are traditional foods made and family gathered around the table in celebration and gratitude.

Participants in TIME QUEST trek through time to discover the traditions and the celebrations of their own country. They seek to understand why certain traditions happen the way they do. They look for the unique and the rare as well as the common and similar. Students begin by thinking deeply about the concept of celebrations that define who you are as a family, a community and a country. Students work with their teacher or UNESCO club leader on narrowing their focus and then conducting inquiries to explore their celebrations fully. Students work on pictures, paintings, time lapse video, slide show presentations, videos and music – anything to demonstrate , to highlight and to share their chosen celebration.

Then they choose their method and audience for sharing. This year the vast majority of schools participating wanted to share their results in video conferences with other schools. This has been an excellent evolution of this particular TIME PROJECT activity and better meets the activities goal of commemorating our shared involvement and experiences throughout time, sharing a global celebration with The World and developing student competences through sharing a message.

Time Celebrates and recognizes our unique TIME QUEST participants this year in our TIME SPOTLIGHT…
